Social media has become a breeding ground for romantic scams, and unfortunately, many women continue to fall victim to them despite repeated warnings. The palace expresses its concern at this worrying trend which sees women being the targets of matrimonial fraud on the internet, despite the warnings issued.
The palace highlights the worrying nature of the growing vulnerability of certain women, ready to believe in marriage proposals on the internet. Despite multiple warnings to the public, particularly women wanting to marry public figures such as the Ooni, internet scammers continue to take advantage of this gullibility.
Faced with numerous concerns from Ooni supporters around the world, the palace deemed it essential to clarify the situation. He declared that the information disseminated by a Twitter account named ‘99% OPPRESSED’ was false, unfounded, and constituted baseless slander. These allegations are intended to gain visibility and attract a large number of followers on Twitter.
The palace was keen to emphasize that the person named Ms Fagbule had no connection with the Ooni and that no communication or promise of marriage had taken place between them. In addition, it was clarified that Ooni did not use personal accounts on social networks, and that these were managed by a dedicated team.
The article also relayed the issue of the absence of a face-to-face meeting between Ms Fagbule and the Ooni, despite her alleged connection with Osun town or Ile-Ife. The palace suggested that if she was truly a victim, she should have turned to relevant authorities such as the Economic and Financial Commission or the police to investigate.
Additionally, the palace questioned the authenticity of the marriage proposal letter that was circulating on social media, saying it was a fabrication. The letter’s characteristic elements did not correspond to the official style of the Ile-Ife Palace.
Finally, the palace invited Ms Fagbule to go to Ile-Ife to meet the Ooni and collaborate in identifying those responsible for this scam. This approach aims to put an end to these fraudulent practices and to protect women against internet scams.
Ultimately, it is essential to remain vigilant regarding marriage proposals on the internet and to verify the authenticity of the information before committing to any relationship. Romance scams are unfortunately a widespread phenomenon, but by raising awareness and educating the public, it is possible to reduce the risks and prevent such frauds.
