Fatshimetrie: the insecurity situation in Goma and North Kivu
For some time now, the Goma region, in North Kivu, has been the scene of growing insecurity which is causing concern among the population. Recent events in Turunga, a village in Nyiragongo territory, have highlighted the violence plaguing the region.
Indeed, the brutal murder of three members of the same family in Turunga deeply shocked the community. The armed bandits, whose identity remains to be determined, sowed terror by entering the village and opening fire on the inhabitants. Despite the warnings issued by the population, no intervention by the security forces was able to prevent this tragedy.
This tragedy was the trigger for popular demonstrations, leading to clashes with the police and disruption of traffic in the region. Residents, exasperated by the growing insecurity, are demanding urgent measures to put an end to this spiral of violence.
These events are unfortunately not isolated to the Goma region. Testimonies are multiplying, reporting armed attacks, thefts and assassinations. The population lives in constant fear, fearing for their safety and that of their loved ones.
The causes of this increase in insecurity are multiple. The massive arrival of displaced persons from the M23 contributed to the proliferation of weapons and the strengthening of armed groups in the region. The authorities are being challenged on the need to act quickly to restore peace and security in this area.
It is imperative that the authorities take concrete measures to stem this wave of violence raging in Goma and North Kivu. The population urgently needs protection and justice to put an end to these barbaric acts.
In conclusion, the insecurity situation in Goma and North Kivu is worrying and requires a rapid and effective response from the authorities. It is time to act to put an end to this violence which threatens the lives and peace of the region’s inhabitants.
