The town of Bunia, in the province of Ituri in the Democratic Republic of Congo, experienced a day marked by the slowdown in economic activities following the murder of three people. This sad news plunged the Yira community, bringing together the Nande people, into deep sadness and had a palpable impact on the daily life of the city’s inhabitants.
From the early hours of the day, it was evident that sadness and pain had gripped the city. The usually bustling streets of Bunia were deserted, shops and stores closed. Liberation Boulevard, “Ituri” Avenue and the central market were almost empty, reflecting the mourning and solidarity of the Yira community.
The interim president of the Yira community, Ezechias Mufalme Muke, expressed the need for these two days of mourning, July 7 and 8, 2024, in memory of the victims and to support the bereaved families. He also called for thorough investigations to shed light on these tragic events before the victims are buried.
Local authorities have already put in place measures to identify and apprehend those responsible for the burglary which led to the loss of human lives. Suspects linked to this crime have been located and are currently being questioned, with the aim of providing justice for the victims and ensuring the safety of the population.
Faced with this wave of violence, the population of Bunia aspires to justice and peace. It is essential that the authorities do everything possible to prevent such criminal acts and ensure the safety of residents in the region. In these difficult times, community unity and solidarity are essential to overcome these challenges and build a better future for all.
