“Accusations of conspiracy against the opposition in the DRC: the special adviser to Moïse Katumbi in turmoil”

The political situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo is only getting more complicated. An intelligence service of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC), named the Military Detection of Anti-Homeland Activities (DEMIAP), revealed that Salomon Kalonda Della, special and political adviser to the opponent Moïse Katumbi, is being held for several serious charges.

Lieutenant-Colonel Kangoli Ngoli Patrick, legal adviser to the military intelligence staff, said that Salomon Kalonda is accused of inciting soldiers to commit acts contrary to duty and discipline, undermining the security of the State and illegal possession of weapons. According to reports, Salomon Kalonda Della was in contact with the officers of the M23/RDF terrorist movement and Rwandans with the aim of overthrowing Tshisekedi from power and installing a Katangese national.

However, supporters of Salomon Kalonda Della disagree and question the real charges against their leader. They are convinced that Congolese justice is involved in the Rojbokan trial, to prove their loyalty to the power in place.

This tense political climate in the DRC worries observers, forced to note that the country is struggling to afford stability, even political cohesion. The repression of the opposition, the arbitrary arrests of opposition leaders, and these accusations on the basis of a conspiracy undermine the credibility of the democratic process. President Félix Tshisekedi must quickly take action to restore order and political stability in the country
