The security situation in the city-province of Kinshasa is very tense on the border with the province of Kwango, where there has been an armed incursion by the Mobondo militia. This situation was reported by a delegation of provincial deputies from Kinshasa led by Godé Mpoyi and Papy Epiana Nzamu who were received by the President of the National Assembly, Christophe Mboso. This delegation noted an upsurge in violence in the peripheral localities of Kinshasa, with recurrent assassinations which raise concern.
Faced with this growing insecurity, the provincial elected officials of Kinshasa have requested the support of the National Assembly to remedy the situation, especially since the police in the city of Kinshasa lack the means to deal with it. The delegation proposed that an inter-ministerial commission be set up under the aegis of the President of the Republic made up of the 4 governors of the provinces concerned, national and provincial elected officials as well as customary chiefs to re-examine the situation of Teke-Yaka and the Mobondo militia in order to bring peace to the region.
Speaker Mboso reassured that everything will be done to quickly restore peace throughout the city and avoid loss of life.
The resurgence of violence is not limited to the city-province of Kinshasa only, but is also present in other regions of the country. Since the beginning of the year, more than 500 people have been killed in the DRC, which requires urgent action to deal with this growing insecurity.
Several organizations are also calling for an end to the state of siege in North Kivu, denouncing certain illegal practices and the government’s lack of effectiveness in the measures taken against armed groups in the region.
Despite these difficulties, the DRC is making progress in certain areas, notably with the adoption of a law aimed at protecting the right of workers to strike and the establishment of factories in special economic zones to stimulate the local economy.
In short, it is important that the authorities take the necessary measures to deal with the growing insecurity in the DRC, while continuing efforts for the economic development of the country.
