**Fatshimetrie, June 26, 2024 – A step towards modernization**
On this day of June 26, 2024, the Congolese national police of Kamanyola, located in the territory of Walungu in South Kivu, inaugurated a new building offered by the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO). This gesture symbolizes a significant step forward in the partnership between the PNC and UNPOL, thus strengthening the operational capabilities of local security forces.
The inauguration ceremony was marked by the presence of the Deputy Chief Commissioner of the PNC, Tarcisse Kitambala, who underlined the importance of this fruitful collaboration. The new building, the result of close cooperation between the PNC and UNPOL, demonstrates the commitment of both partners to improving the working conditions of police officers and strengthening citizen security.
This construction project, lasting five months, was carried out thanks to funding of USD 64,570 from MONUSCO. The modern building includes two cells for detainees, five offices, five toilets and a meeting room, providing an adequate working environment for members of the Kamanyola PNC.
Ir. Bonheur Ndusi Iragi, from Save The Lives (SALI ASbL), highlighted the crucial role of MONUSCO in the realization of this project and expressed his gratitude to the organization and the local community for their support. This new building demonstrates MONUSCO’s commitment to supporting the efforts of local authorities in the fight against violence and the promotion of civilian security.
The closure of the MONUSCO base in Kamanyola in February 2024 has not altered the organization’s commitment to the local community. On the contrary, this construction project marks an important step in strengthening the capacities of the Congolese national police and testifies to the perseverance of all actors involved in promoting peace and security in the region.
In conclusion, the inauguration of this new building is a concrete illustration of the fruitful cooperation between MONUSCO, the PNC and the local community. This exemplary partnership opens the way to new opportunities for collaboration to improve the security and well-being of the populations of Kamanyola and the South Kivu region.
Finally, this event marks an important step in the consolidation of the institutions and infrastructures necessary for maintaining peace and security in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
May this new era of cooperation be the prelude to numerous projects and initiatives aimed at strengthening security and stability in the region.
