Fatshimetrie, June 22, 2024. A dynamic awareness campaign to combat unsanitary conditions was launched in the Kalubwe district, in Lubumbashi, Haut-Katanga province, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This initiative, supported by the “Awakening of Patriotic Consciousness” (ECP) association, aims to clean up the environment and guarantee the safety of residents by eliminating spaces conducive to intrusions and theft.
Anne-Marie Mulongoyi, vice-coordinator of the ECP, underlined the importance of this campaign which will last two months. She distributed garbage bags to each household, inviting residents to deposit their waste in them for a healthier environment. This participatory approach intends to actively involve the population in preserving their living environment.
During a field visit, accompanied by her colleagues and local officials, Anne-Marie Mulongoyi encouraged residents to adopt responsible behavior towards their environment. She also committed to returning in two weeks to collect the waste collected by citizens.
The Kalubwe district chief, Sylvain Kavul, supported this initiative by calling on residents to get actively involved in the fight against unsanitary conditions. He insisted on the importance of not transforming public spaces into garbage dumps, stressing that cleanliness contributes to the beauty and safety of the city.
Residents of Kalubwe neighborhood rallied behind this common cause, expressing their commitment to work with the ECP to keep their neighborhood clean and safe. This exemplary action will be extended to all districts of Lubumbashi in the coming weeks, thus demonstrating the collective desire to preserve the environment and promote the quality of life of residents.
