Nigerian “cults”: the sinister scourge of human trafficking in Western Europe

The Nigerian “cults”, these formidable criminal gangs which are rampant in Western Europe, arouse deep concern and raise questions about the sordid realities of human trafficking and pimping in organized gangs. Currently, seven men are appearing before the Paris criminal court, accused of having orchestrated a network of pimping Nigerian women in the Paris region. This trial offers a dark insight into the disturbing rise of these “cults” and reveals the extreme cruelty of their actions.

Nigerian “cults”, such as the “Maphite” brotherhood, operate in the shadows and exercise terrifying control over their victims. Originally from Edo State in southern Nigeria, these criminals have established branches in Europe, including the infamous “Eiffel Tower Family” in Paris. The overwhelming testimonies of the victims reveal a scenario of terror: physical violence, threats to families remaining in the country, forced abortions. Women, reduced to the state of commercial objects, are forced into total submission under penalty of suffering the worst abuse.

The psychological influence exercised by these organizations is particularly vicious. Nigerian prostitutes are subjected to a “juju” ritual forcing the women to absolute silence under penalty of being cursed. This ceremony, mixing superstitions and ritual violence, reinforces the mental control of the victims, preventing them from freeing themselves from their ordeal. The colossal debt imposed on women, combined with the tyrannical figure of “Mama” or “Madam”, worsens their already desperate situation.

Human trafficking, amplified by Nigerian criminal networks, reveals a chilling reality of sexual exploitation in France. The alarming figures for the number of victims from Nigeria highlight the insidious scale of this scourge. The authorities must act decisively to break up these heinous networks and protect the most vulnerable from these unscrupulous predators.

In these times when humanity faces multiple challenges, the fight against human trafficking and pimping must remain an absolute priority. The trial of the members of the “Maphite” brotherhood highlights the crucial importance of international cooperation to combat these modern forms of slavery together. It is time to act against these mafia “cults” which are corrupting our societies and destroying lives in the shadows.
