“Lumumba, the return of a hero: discover the documentary which traces the history of the Congolese icon”

Lumumba, the return of a hero: an essential film to discover

The Vendôme cinema, located in Ixelles, Belgium, will host the preview of the documentary Lumumba, the return of a hero, on Thursday June 8th. Lasting one hour and 26 minutes, this film by directors Benoît Feyt, Dieudo Hamadi and Quentin Noirfalisse plunges viewers into the world of Patrice Lumumba, the former Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The documentary looks back at the high-stakes political celebrations that took place during the official return of Lumumba’s remains. However, the film above all highlights what remains of Patrice Lumumba, not only in Belgium, but also in the Congo. The directors have indeed undertaken a real research work to trace the history of the man, from his childhood until his assassination in 1961.

Lumumba’s death remains unpunished to this day, and even though Belgium organized ceremonies in his honor last year, the mystery remains as to the whereabouts of his remains. A tooth is the only tangible trace of his disappearance, the rest of his body having been dissolved in acid.

The documentary will be followed by a meeting with the directors during the screening in Ixelles. This meeting will be a unique opportunity for viewers to ask all their questions about the production of this film.

Patrice Lumumba is a key figure in the history of the Democratic Republic of Congo. This documentary allows viewers to better understand the story of this man who marked his country forever. If you are passionate about African history, and in particular that of the DRC, do not miss Lumumba, the return of a hero
