Deadly road in the DRC: broken promises and an abandoned population

The deplorable state of the roads has become a real source of fatal accidents in the Democratic Republic of Congo, as we learn from the latest tragedy in the city of Pweto. A Hiace brand vehicle was involved in an accident in Malambwe, located 72 km from Kilwa. This tragic toll claimed the lives of three people, while several others were injured and lost their property.

Despite repeated promises from the governor of the province of Haut-Katanga, Jacques Kyabula Katwe, road number 5 remains in critical condition, endangering the lives of users. This situation adds to the difficulties experienced by the population of Pweto, which is one of the cities most lacking in terms of basic infrastructure. However, two companies operating in the region, AMC and Mushima, have not yet made the slightest effort to remedy this situation.

Faced with this distress, the population of this part of the country feels abandoned and lives in total despair. The situation is all the more alarming as the media are reluctant to talk about insecurity and road accidents, which continue to increase. This tragic accident underlines the urgency of a political response to ensure the safety of Congolese
