Revolution in the distribution of resources: Towards unprecedented budgetary transparency

Fatshimetrie, a publication paying close attention to recent political developments, recently reported the observations of Professor Ifure A. Ifure, Country Representative of the Center for International Strategy. This highlighted the significant changes made within the National Assembly, particularly with regard to the methods of distribution of resources.

According to the Fatshimetrie report, Professor Ifure shared his thoughts as part of his assessment of the Green Chamber after its first year in session. He noted: “For the first time in our nation’s history, budget proposals were subject to public debate, with input and suggestions coming from members of the public.”

“This revolutionary breakthrough occurred during the consideration of the last supplementary budget, when the President, through Hon. Bichi, invited Nigerians to participate and granted live coverage for the world everyone can see.”

He also highlighted the Appropriations Committee, headed by Hon. Kabir Bichi, which adopted an innovative system using technology and data analytics to improve resource allocation.

Furthermore, Professor Ifure noted that the committee made the budget process more transparent and inclusive, thereby allowing for public scrutiny and input, marking a significant change from previous methods.

“I applaud the 10th House of Representatives, Speaker Tajudeen Abass and the Appropriations Committee for this bold initiative to make the budget process more inclusive and transparent.”

By emphasizing these elements, Fatshimetrie highlighted the importance of these advances in the current political landscape, emphasizing the commitment to transparency and inclusion at the heart of budgetary decisions. This new approach paves the way for more participatory and accountable governance, integrating the perspectives and contributions of civil society for more informed and democratic decision-making.
