The finalized agreement provides for the construction of cruise terminals in several Egyptian ports, such as Safaga, Hurghada and Sharm El-Sheikh. This collaboration, orchestrated by the General Authority of Red Sea Ports on the Egyptian side and by the Abu Dhabi Ports group, reaffirms the commitment of the two entities to stimulate the tourism and maritime sector in the region.
The inauguration of the modern terminals in Safaga and Hurghada in 2015 and 2016 marked the beginning of a new era for maritime tourism in Egypt. As for the Sharm El-Sheikh terminal, it will undergo renovation and development in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Ports group, thus providing travelers with superior infrastructure to accommodate international cruise ships.
Kamel al-Wazir, Minister of Transport, highlighted that this collaboration aims to attract an increasing number of cruise ships to Egyptian ports, while doubling the operating capacity of port infrastructure and developing transit trade. The $4.7 million investment made by Abu Dhabi Ports for the development of maritime infrastructure and management of cruise terminals demonstrates their commitment to promoting luxury tourism in Egypt.
The economic benefits of this partnership will go well beyond the borders of the ports, generating a positive impact on employment, revenues of local tourist destinations and varied tourist activities. This initiative will therefore significantly contribute to increasing national income and promoting the Egyptian tourism sector.
