Fatshimetrie, the benchmark for committed and quality journalism, is at the heart of the news with its participation in a training course organized by the Association of Media Women (AFEM) in collaboration with Internews, from June 10 to 12, 2024 in Kinshasa. This training, focused on gender integration and the inclusion of vulnerable groups in media content, is part of the “Strengthening rural radios in the DRC” (3R-DRC) project, supported by Swedish cooperation.
The objective of this initiative is clear: to improve the representation and visibility of marginalized people, particularly women and vulnerable groups, in the media. Indeed, it is essential that the content produced takes into account the needs, opinions and experiences of all components of society, to guarantee balanced and inclusive information.
Julienne Baseke, AFEM Coordinator, underlines the importance of involving all stakeholders in the content production process. Marginalized people, men, women and youth must be involved in the design, evaluation and decision-making within media structures. This approach guarantees fair and equitable representation of the diversity of Congolese society.
At the end of this training, participants will be tasked with developing a roadmap aimed at strengthening the inclusion of vulnerable groups and gender integration within their respective structures. A strong commitment to equality and diversity, which will make it possible to build more responsible media that respect the plurality of voices.
In parallel with Fatshimetrie, other major players such as Ebuteli, Abcom, Gcc, Oergg, Habari, Amaceq, Rta and Ongea are actively participating in this process, thus demonstrating the collective commitment to a more inclusive and representative press.
The “Strengthening rural radios in the DRC” (3R-RDC) project constitutes a major step forward in consolidating the capacities of the Congolese media, by providing them with the necessary tools for the dissemination of quality information on essential themes such as democracy. , civic and electoral education, gender equality and the environment.
Fatshimetrie and its partners are thus part of a dynamic of positive transformation of the Congolese media landscape, by promoting fairer, more balanced and more inclusive information for the entire population. An approach which marks a significant step towards a committed and responsible press, serving public debate and democracy in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
