Two large marches in Kinshasa to protest against Rwandan aggression and the socio-economic situation in the DRC

Kinshasa, May 20, 2023 – Two major marches scheduled for this Saturday will enliven the city of Kinshasa. The young people of the Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS) as well as the United Congolese Movement (MCU) will beat the pavement to denounce the Rwandan aggression and bring their material and moral support to the FARDC and to the President of the Republic. , Félix Tshisekedi, who serves as supreme commander of the armed forces.

The political opposition, which includes tenors Katumbi, Fayulu, Matata and Sessanga, is also taking advantage of this date to express its fed up. The various opposition parties have organized themselves to cover the four districts of Kinshasa.

The demands of the various political groups involved stem from a common observation: it is necessary to protest against the Rwandan aggression to which the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has been subjected for several months, and to provide the necessary support to the FARDC and to the President of the Republic in their fight.

For the opposition, this demonstration is also an opportunity to speak out against the social and economic situation in the country. Over the past few months, opposition leaders have multiplied their criticism of the power in place, accusing the Presidency of the Republic and the Tshisekedi government of not carrying out their mission properly.

Although the two parties have planned different routes, the presence of several thousand demonstrators is of concern to local authorities, who are calling for caution and responsibility from the organizers.

In this period of turmoil and uncertainty, it is crucial that each party assumes its responsibilities, expresses itself peacefully and respects the laws and institutions of the DRC.

Protesters are expected from 10 a.m. for an effective departure at 11 a.m.
