The national team of the Democratic Republic of Congo, nicknamed the Leopards, once again offered a dazzling performance in front of a jubilant crowd at the Martyrs stadium this Sunday. The clash against the Togo Eperviers, as part of the 4th day of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, allowed the Congolese to win with a score of 1-0, thus marking a step towards qualification.
The match was marked by incredible intensity from the first minutes, with the Congolese players demonstrating unfailing determination. It was Élia Meschak who, with a perfect pass from Yoane Wissa, was able to find the fault and open the score in the 6th minute of play. Despite their domination, the Leopards unfortunately did not manage to increase the score in the first half-time.
The return from the locker room was marked by tactical changes made by the French coach, Sébastien Desabre, by bringing in Fiston Kalala Mayele and Théo Bongonda. However, despite these new offensive strengths, the team failed to reach the opponent’s net again. The Togo Eperviers also tried to come back, but came up against a well-organized Congolese defense.
In the ranking, the DRC maintains its 3rd position with 7 points, tied with Sudan but with an unfavorable goal difference. Togo, for its part, stagnates in 4th place with 3 points on the clock.
This victory for the Leopards of the DRC once again underlines the talent and determination of this national team. Congolese supporters can be proud of their players, who continue to write the history of football in Africa. Hoping that this positive dynamic continues and that the performances of the Leopards continue to shine on the international scene.
