Kwamouth Food Crisis: Urgent Call for Restoration of Peace and Security

In the peaceful town of Kwamouth, once flourishing thanks to its fertile lands and prosperous agricultural activities, a worrying phenomenon is now making headlines: the increasing scarcity of food products. Once abundant and varied, cassava, corn, peanuts, fish and palm oil are now rare, if not almost impossible to find for the region’s inhabitants. This shortage in Kwamouth is largely attributed to fear among the population, preventing them from accessing the surrounding forest due to violence perpetrated by the Mobondo militia.

Martin Futa, prominent president of Kwamouth Civil Society, recently sounded the alarm about this worrying situation. In a context marked by the slow implementation of the peace agreement recently negotiated by the Government, the inhabitants of Kwamouth find themselves in a situation of food distress. “There is definitely a scarcity of agricultural products here in Kwamouth. People are very picky eaters in Kwamouth. This is because the population does not have access to the fields. Even in the camps, people no longer go into the forest. They are now based here in Kwamouth. All this is because the security situation remains the same since the President initiated the meeting between the two parties, until then the process is ongoing,” expressed Martin Futa with bitterness.

Faced with this alarming situation, the president of Kwamouth civil society calls for a rapid response from security forces in order to restore peace and security in the region. It is imperative that the authorities take concrete measures to restore a peaceful climate allowing residents to resume their agricultural and fishing activities with complete peace of mind. The survival and well-being of an entire community which today finds itself destitute and vulnerable is at stake.

In conclusion, the scarcity of food products in Kwamouth reveals not only a major economic crisis, but also a worrying humanitarian crisis. It is imperative that concrete and effective actions are put in place to guarantee access to adequate and sufficient food for the local population. The emergency is palpable, and only rapid and coordinated intervention can get Kwamouth out of this critical situation and restore hope to its residents.
