Suspension of Boss Mining activities in the DRC: A strong decision for the protection of the environment.

The Congolese government has decided to suspend the activities of Boss Mining for a period of three months. The Minister of Mines, Antoinette N’Samba Kalambayi, took this decision following the environmental pollution caused by the company.

In the event that Boss Mining does not take the necessary measures to stop the pollution, this suspension will be renewed. The Secretary General for Mines will also have to take the appropriate measures to repair the damage caused to the affected communities.

Boss Mining is a mining company active in the production of copper cathodes and cobalt concentrates, located at KAKANDA in the district of Lubudi, 60 km from the town of Likasi. The company is one of the core assets of Eurasian Resources Group (ERG). Its activities include surface mining, crushing, upgrading, concentrating and selective sorting facilities.

By suspending the activities of Boss Mining, the Congolese government is showing its desire to protect the environment and to ensure that the companies present on its territory take into account the consequences of their activities on local populations and on the planet.

It is important that mining companies involved in the production of metals crucial for technology and other industries, take care of the environment and invest in more environmentally friendly technologies, while being aware of the consequences of their activity on local communities
