“Violent attack against Delly Sessanga in the DRC: The opposition condemns and demands justice”

Delly Sessanga, president of the political party Envol and declared presidential candidate in the Democratic Republic of Congo, was recently attacked during a political tour in the town of Kananga. Following this shocking event, several Congolese opposition leaders reacted strongly.

Matata Ponyo and Moïse Katumbi, two prominent political opponents, issued a press release strongly condemning the attack. They affirmed that Delly Sessanga and the members of his political party deserve to fully enjoy their freedom of the press and their right of movement, as guaranteed by Congolese laws and international legal instruments ratified by the country.

The two opposition leaders also called for the opening of an investigation to identify the perpetrators and sponsors of this attack so that they can be brought to justice and severely punished. In their press release, they expressed their solidarity with Delly Sessanga, the journalists present during the incident and the entire team accompanying him on his political tour.

The Congolese government also reacted to this attack by strongly condemning it. Government spokesman Communication and Media Minister Patrick Muyaya said violence had no place in a democratic society.

This incident once again highlights the challenges faced by politicians and opposition parties in the DRC. Political tensions and acts of violence can hamper the democratic process and undermine citizens’ fundamental rights, such as freedom of expression and movement.

In conclusion, this attack on Delly Sessanga highlights the importance of supporting and protecting democracy in the DRC. It is essential that those responsible for this attack be held accountable for their actions in order to preserve the integrity of the political process in the country
