Payment of surface rights: an important alert from the Mining Cadastre in the DRC

A recent observation revealed an alarming situation: among around fifty holders of mining and quarry rights, payments of annual surface rights, intended for a portion of the Public Treasury, are not recorded in official documents. This gap led the Mining Cadastre to launch an urgent appeal to the holders concerned. In a press release dated Monday May 27, 2024, Popol Mabolia Yenga, the Director General of the Mining Cadastre, asks defaulting holders to provide proof of payment within 30 days following May 23, under penalty of seeing their rights canceled under article 287 of the Mining Code.
