“Violence and arson ravage Dékésé in the DRC: security and emergency aid to victims”

Fires and violence continue to ravage the region of Dekese, in the province of the Democratic Republic of Congo. No less than 45 dwellings, including houses, pharmacies, schools, churches and shops, were reduced to ashes in the village of Longa, located 80 km from the center of the Dekese territory.

Those responsible for these acts of violence are clearly identified and also opened fire at point-blank range on a man of around sixty years of age. This is confirmed by Patrick Bassa, administrator of the Dekese territory. According to him, these individuals are using locally made weapons, which were seized by law enforcement and transferred to Ilebo.

The tragic situation even prevented Patrick Bassa and his motorcade from reaching the scene of the tragedy, because the outlaws tried to stop them. Despite this, the competent authorities are continuing the investigations and assistance is requested for the victims who find themselves homeless, some spending the night under the stars and others in termite mounds.

Fortunately, calm returned temporarily and the populations were able to return to their respective villages. The uncivil arrested, who used bladed weapons and 12-gauge hunting weapons, are currently being questioned by the Ilebo military prosecutor’s office before being transferred to the secondary prosecutor’s office.

Faced with this situation, Patrick Bassa calls for urgent intervention by the provincial authorities in order to advance the investigations and provide assistance to the victims. It is necessary to take measures to prevent further acts of violence and ensure the safety of the inhabitants of the Dekese region.

These tragic events underline the importance of the presence of the police in the areas affected by the violence and of a rapid reaction by the authorities to guarantee the safety and protection of the populations. Ending impunity and ensuring that those responsible for these acts of violence are brought to justice is essential to ensuring peace and stability in the region.

In conclusion, it is crucial to put in place effective measures to prevent such acts of violence and to protect the population. The situation in Dekese is once again a reminder of the urgency to strengthen security and support actions aimed at promoting peace and stability in the region
