On May 25, 2024, the meeting room of the President of the National Assembly was the scene of an important meeting. Indeed, Professor Vital Kamerhe, newly elected head of the lower house of parliament, brought together the members of the office for an inaugural session rich in crucial orientations and directives.

This meeting aimed to lay the foundations for the future action of this new office, by highlighting the interests of the population. President Vital Kamerhe, aware of the responsibility incumbent on him, insisted on the importance of working in harmony to meet the expectations of citizens.

During this meeting, the rapporteur Jacques Djoli Eseng Ekeli was tasked with preparing the next plenary of the National Assembly. This session will mark the end of the extraordinary inaugural session, in accordance with article 114 of the constitution. The upcoming missions will be the validation of credentials, the installation of the provisional office, the development and adoption of the internal regulations, as well as the installation of the final office.

Jacques Djoli Eseng Ekeli underlined the importance of this next plenary, which will launch the ordinary session in March ending on June 15. MPs will be invited to form parliamentary groups, set up standing committees and select the members who will be part of them. In addition, the establishment of the committee of wise men will also be on the agenda.

This future plenary, scheduled for the beginning of the following week, constitutes a crucial step for the establishment of the bodies necessary for the proper functioning of the National Assembly. It should be noted that the inauguration of the new government, the publication of which is imminent, will constitute the first issue on the agenda of this session.

Thus, this meeting of the office of the National Assembly paved the way for a pivotal period for democracy and governance in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The desire of elected officials to work together in the interest of the people illustrates a strong commitment to the progress and development of the country.
