“Persistent conflict in eastern DRC: Rwandan army attacks jeopardize regional stability”

In the east of the DRC, in the province of North Kivu, tensions between the Congolese army and the Rwandan army persist despite the presence of the regional force of the EAC. The Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) recently reported clashes with the Rwandan army (RDF) along the border between terminals 13 and 14, in Nyiragongo territory. At least one Rwandan soldier was reportedly killed during these clashes.

These incursions by the Rwandan army come as the FARDC has observed a ceasefire since March, in accordance with the resolutions of the Luanda and Nairobi processes. Unfortunately, the rebel group M23 does not respect these agreements and continues to occupy areas in the territories of Rutshuru, Nyiragongo and Masisi.

It is important to emphasize that the presence of the EAC regional force in the DRC was intended to deal with the M23 rebellion and to ensure security in the region. However, the attacks by the Rwandan army call into question the effectiveness of this regional force and the ability to put an end to tensions in the region.

It is essential to find a peaceful solution to this conflict, in order to guarantee the security of the populations of eastern DRC. The relentless attacks by the Rwandan army only worsen the already precarious situation in the region, which is already facing humanitarian, economic and political challenges.

It is also essential that the international community intervene and support efforts to resolve this conflict. The stability of the DRC and the Great Lakes region is crucial for peace and development in Central Africa.

In conclusion, the attacks by the Rwandan army in North Kivu in the DRC continue despite the ceasefire observed by the FARDC. It is important to find a peaceful solution to this conflict to ensure security and stability in the region. The international community must also play an active role in supporting efforts to resolve this conflict
