Management of sports infrastructure after the Games of La Francophonie: a lasting legacy to preserve for Kinshasa

The ninth Games of La Francophonie are currently taking place in Kinshasa, and beyond the sports competition, the question of the management of sports infrastructures after the event is at the center of concerns. The President of the Republic, Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi, stressed during a meeting of the Council of Ministers the need to build or rehabilitate sports infrastructures that meet international standards, while ensuring their sustainability.

“Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi encouraged the government to implement the maintenance and upkeep policy for the various sites in order to ensure their sustainability”, indicates the minutes of the meeting. Thus, the Minister of Infrastructure and Public Works, the Minister of Higher and University Education, as well as the Minister of Sports and Leisure are invited to take measures for better management and use of infrastructure, while putting in place strategies operational and attractive to promote these sites.

This commitment to a lasting legacy demonstrates the Democratic Republic of Congo’s desire to make the most of these sports facilities, for the benefit of future generations. It is not only a question of building modern facilities and meeting international standards, but also of guaranteeing their maintenance and responsible use beyond the Games of La Francophonie.
