“CENI adopts electoral guides ahead of national legislative elections in the DRC scheduled for June 2023”

The DRC is preparing for the national legislative elections scheduled for June 2023. Last Tuesday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) adopted procedural guides for the operation and training of members of the Candidature Reception and Processing Offices (BRTC ) with a view to summoning the electorate. This approach is part of the 2023-2024 electoral calendar made public on November 26, 2022.

According to the calendar, the convocation of the electorate for the national deputation is scheduled for June 25, 2023, followed by the opening of the BRTCs to the national deputation for the filing and processing of candidate files from June 26 to July 15. On August 2, the electorate will also be called for provincial deputies and municipal councillors, followed by the opening of the BRTCs for their election from August 3 to 22. On September 1, the convocation of the electorate for the Presidential will take place.

At the same time, the CENI also set up a joint external audit mission of the electoral register, made up of five national and international experts. This work of external audit of the electoral register is a requirement of the announced electoral calendar.
