In the News: Comic AY Makun opens up about his house fire

In a recent interview on the Toke Moments podcast, famous comedian AY Makun reflected on the events that led to the discovery of his house fire. At the time of the incident, he was on tour in Canada and was completely unaware that his house was on fire.

The comedian says: “I woke up and saw like 78 missed calls, I didn’t know what was going on. So I answered those calls and I knew something had happened , and the first thing I saw when I opened my phone was my house on fire on Instablog, that’s how I found out. I was in Canada on tour at the time.”

Makun sees the fire as a blessing, as only material things were lost, no human lives were affected. The day the fire happened, his wife and children were also abroad, so when he jokes about the fire, it’s his way of thanking God.

He said: “It was my moment of gratitude, knowing full well that my family was on vacation. So when people see me and say, ‘He’s still doing what he does best,’ I say it’s my way of giving thanks because would I be talking about a burning house or the things that burned in this house if my family was gone I would be devastated, devastated and an empty shell, so I thank God because we? We were all absent.”

On August 6, 2023, a viral video posted by social media user @Postsubman showed the comic’s two-story home engulfed in flames. At the time, Nigerians were in panic, fearing for the comedian’s well-being, but luckily everyone was fine.

This story is a powerful reminder that the lives and health of our loved ones are far more important than all our material possessions. AY Makun shows us how important it is to count our blessings and find reasons to give thanks, even in the face of adversity.

Although this ordeal was difficult, the comedian was able to keep smiling and continue to do what he does best: entertain others. Her resilience and gratitude are inspiring examples for us all.

In a world where so many things can cause us stress and worry, it is important to remember that life is fragile and that every day is a blessing. Let’s find reasons to give thanks, even in the darkest moments, because it is in these moments that our inner strength is revealed.
