Political tensions and insecurity in the DRC threaten the holding of the 2023 elections: the urgent appeal of Professor Casimir Ngumbi.

Political tensions and insecurity in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) continue to jeopardize the holding of credible and transparent elections, according to Professor Casimir Ngumbi. During a conference-debate on the challenges of the 2023 elections, he stressed that the challenges facing the country have a direct impact on the electoral process.

In certain parts of the DRC, notably the provinces of North Kivu and Ituri, the state of siege and the occupation of the territory by the M23 make it difficult to organize polls in secure conditions. These elements raise concerns about compliance with the electoral calendar and the possibility of contesting the results.

Professor Casimir Ngumbi fears that the elections scheduled for December 2023 may be postponed due to these events. He therefore calls on political actors to show compromise and work together to ensure fair and transparent elections.

This conference-debate, organized on the initiative of the General Secretariat for Research of the University of Kindu, brought together political actors, students and journalists. It demonstrates the importance attached to the issue of elections in the DRC and the need for constructive dialogue to overcome the current challenges.

It is crucial that all political actors put aside their differences in order to find solutions to guarantee democratic and peaceful elections in the DRC. The stability of the country and the confidence of citizens in the electoral process depend on it.

It is essential that the 2023 elections in the DRC take place in an atmosphere of peace and security, thus allowing the country to progress towards stable and sustainable democratic governance. The current challenges should not jeopardize the future of Congolese democracy, but rather serve as a catalyst for a stronger commitment to inclusion and the holding of free and fair elections
