The relaunch of the Maiko cement plant in the Tshopo province has aroused great interest from investors and the Congolese authorities. During a meeting chaired by the governor of the province, Madeleine Nikomba Sabangu, investors expressed their desire to participate in the revival of this factory which has been bankrupt for several years.
The Minister of Industry, Julien Paluku, also took part in the meeting and stressed the importance of boosting investments in the country. He encouraged investors to adopt a pragmatic approach in their commitments and assured that the Congolese government would put in place the necessary measures to facilitate and protect investments.
The governor of Tshopo welcomed the support of the central government in carrying out this project, stressing that the relaunch of the Maiko cement plant would be beneficial for the local population by creating jobs and contributing to the reduction of cement imports in the region.
In the coming days, a visit to the cement plant site will be carried out by technicians from the Ministry of Industry, the Tshopo provincial government and investors. This visit will make it possible to assess the quality of the limestone resources present on the site, essential for the production of quality cement.
The project to revive the Maiko cement plant is part of the development program for the 145 territories initiated by President Félix Tshisekedi. It aims to modernize infrastructure and housing in the eastern, northeast and northwest territories of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
This project represents an economic and social development opportunity for the Tshopo province and will contribute to strengthening the country’s autonomy in cement production.
