Industry as a factor of peace and stability in the Ituri region.

The province of Ituri has been shaken for several years by armed violence which jeopardizes the security and development of the region. Faced with this situation, economic operators from Irumu, Djugu, Mambasa and the city of Bunia asked the Minister of Industry Julien Paluku Kahongya to ask industry to contribute to the pacification of the province.

The Minister of Industry reassured these operators of President Tshisekedi’s firm determination to make industry a factor of peace and stability with the creation of Special Economic Zones in this province. This measure will not only create jobs for young people, but also reduce their recruitment by negative forces.

Economic operators welcomed this initiative of the Ministry of Industry which consists in promoting the creation of processing units in the east of the country. They stressed the importance of peace for development and called on the government to act quickly to restore it.

This question was also raised during meetings with the Ministries of the Interior, Security and Customary Affairs, and Defence. The government therefore seems to be taking the situation prevailing in Ituri province very seriously and is seeking solutions to pacify the region and encourage its development.
