The issue of the war in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is still topical. In an interview with POLITICO.CD, national deputy Emmanuel Apuobo Leku, elected from the Mambasa constituency in Ituri province, painted a disturbing picture of the violent situation in this region of the DRC. He pointed out that armed conflicts have become increasingly varied and complicated, moving from tribal warfare to socio-economic warfare.
Emmanuel Apuobo Leku expressed his concern at the lack of concrete actions initiated by the Ituri authorities, in particular by the current military governor of Ituri, Lieutenant-General Johnny Luboya Nkashama, commander of the first zone of Defense of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC). For him, the state of siege established in the provinces of Ituri and North Kivu since May 2021 is not producing the expected results. He believes that this measure should be lifted and the army should be allowed to do its job as in the past.
Concerning the dialogue between the armed groups active in Ituri, the elected representative of the Mambasa constituency expressed doubts as to its effectiveness: “everyone remains vigilant, they go to dialogue, they sign agreements but everyone has their weapons at home. him and if by a simple fact elsewhere, things do not hold there, they will return to war”. He therefore called on the DRC authorities to find more lasting solutions to bring peace to this region.
There is an urgent need to resolve this situation, because even if the war in Ituri is not publicized, it continues to cause deaths and displacements. The fight against insecurity in the DRC is a major challenge for the stability and development of the country.
