“A new rule in the Congolese National Assembly: the exclusivity of images entrusted to RTNC to guarantee the security of deputies”

In the Congolese political world, something new has just emerged in the National Assembly. Indeed, the commission responsible for developing the internal regulations recently proposed a measure aimed at entrusting the exclusivity of the taking of images and their broadcasting to Radiotélévision nationale congolaise (RTNC) during plenary sessions.

This decision follows management difficulties linked to the increasing attendance of the public during these sessions. In order to better control the situation, the commission decided to limit the number of people authorized to attend the debates and to grant exclusivity of the images to RTNC. Other media will then be able to relay these images.

This measure also aims to guarantee the safety of deputies, as highlighted by MP Rombau Fumany. He proposed the installation of giant screens to allow the public to follow the work without accessing the plenary room. This initiative would allow elected officials to work in a calm climate, protected from possible disruptions caused by activists.

In summary, this committee proposal aims to ensure the smooth running of plenary sessions and to guarantee the safety of deputies. By restricting access to the taking of images and limiting the number of spectators, the Congolese National Assembly hopes to establish a working climate conducive to constructive and peaceful debates.
