“Truck traffic jams at the Kasumbalesa border: the governor is committed to improving the fluidity of customs operations”

The Governor of the province of Haut Katanga, Jacques kyabula Katwe, visited the border of Kasumbalesa to understand the hours of operation at the border and the problem of the fluidity of trucks. During his visit, he met with the Kasumbalesa Customs Carriers Representatives Association to discuss the critical issue of truck traffic jams at the border with Zambia.

Representatives of customs carriers expressed their concern about this situation of traffic jams which disrupts operations at the Kasumbalesa border. To remedy this problem, they requested the involvement of the authorities in order to raise the awareness of economic operators and customs agencies to speed up the operations for obtaining documents, synonymous with fluidity.

Contrary to some assertions, Trafigo SARL, a company operating in the area, does not deliver any document and is not involved in the customs procedure. They receive the trucks and release them after the customs documents have been completed by the customs authorities.

The article highlights the importance of the fluidity of trucks at the border and the consequences that slow operations can have on the economy. The solution proposed by the representatives of the customs carriers is interesting and could be used to improve the situation in other borders
