“DRC’s economic situation: price stability and organized border fraud at the center of discussions at a government meeting”

The Prime Minister of the DRC, Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde Kyenge, chaired the weekly meeting of the Economic Situation Committee on May 31, 2023. The ministers took stock of the country’s economic situation for the week from May 22 to 26. May 2023. According to the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Economy, Vital Kamerhe, the prices of goods and services on the markets have remained stable. The exchange rate also remained equivalent and foreign exchange reserves are positive.

However, organized fraud at all levels of borders has been discussed at length. The ministers considered measures to curb it, in order to align the justice of economic operators and the State. The latter wants to protect as much as each other. The meeting also addressed the issue of maize importation into Katanga.

The Minister of State in charge of the Budget, the Minister of Foreign Trade, the Deputy Minister of Mines, the Deputy Minister of Finance and the Governor of the Central Bank of Congo took part in the meeting
