The Congolese opposition demands the resignation of the President of the Constitutional Court following violations of the duty of reserve

The three Congolese opposition leaders, Moise Katumbi, Matata Ponyo and Delly Sesanga, recently called for the resignation of the President of the Constitutional Court, Dieudonné Kamulete, for violation of his duty of confidentiality. According to them, Kamulete broke the law by giving media interviews on the assassination of MP Chérubin Okende.

In a joint statement, the opposition leaders remind Dieudonné Kamulete that he is bound by the obligation of reserve, dignity and loyalty towards the State, in accordance with article 29 of the organic law of the Court Constitutional. They believe that his public position in the media on the affair of the assassination of Chérubin Okende constitutes a disciplinary fault which should lead to his resignation.

Opposition leaders point out that Dieudonné Kamulete spoke publicly about the assassination of Chérubin Okende, seeking to exculpate himself and discharge himself of all responsibility. They believe that this compromises the ongoing investigation and raises suspicions about the circumstances of the kidnapping of the deputy, which took place inside the Constitutional Court itself.

Faced with these violations of the duty of reserve and the doubts that remain as to the involvement of Dieudonné Kamulete in this affair, the leaders of the opposition are asking for his resignation in order to allow the justice system to shed light on this affair after a independent investigation.

It is important to remember that Chérubin Okende, Congolese national deputy, was found dead, riddled with bullets, in his car on July 13, 2023, the day after his disappearance in Kinshasa.

This request for the resignation of the President of the Constitutional Court highlights the political tensions in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the need to respect the principles of the rule of law in order to ensure transparency and impartiality in the criminal investigations of this gender.
