Catastrophic floods in South Kivu: The European Commission offers humanitarian aid of 200,000 euros.

South Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo has just suffered catastrophic flooding, killing hundreds and leaving thousands without shelter or resources. Faced with this situation, the European Commission has offered humanitarian aid of 200,000 euros to help the affected populations.

The funding will be used to provide essential services such as water, hygiene and health services as well as shelter for the most vulnerable families affected by the floods. The project will be implemented in collaboration with the Red Cross of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), which is already working on the ground to help affected populations.

About 50,000 people were affected by this natural disaster which also damaged water sources, latrines and roads. This disaster has worsened the situation in the affected area, which had already hosted more than 100,000 people displaced from North Kivu due to the violence there.

The EU contribution comes at a time when the humanitarian situation in the DRC is deteriorating, with a sharp upsurge in violence in different parts of the country and massive human rights violations.

In this context, the Congolese authorities are called upon to take urgent measures to strengthen the security of the population and guarantee the protection of their fundamental rights. The EU continues to support initiatives aimed at promoting peace and stability in the DRC
