Greenpeace Africa recently announced the launch of the Climate Justice Movement in Kinshasa, a partnership bringing together 30 civil society organizations committed to protecting the environment in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This initiative aims to unify local efforts to combat environmental degradation and climate change.

According to Bonaventure Bondo, Forests campaigner for the Congo Basin at Greenpeace Africa, it is essential to protect the country’s forests, curb the expansion of fossil fuels and defend the rights of local communities and indigenous peoples.

Indeed, the Climate Justice Movement offers a platform to strengthen advocacy and implement joint actions in favor of environmental conservation in the DRC. This collaboration aims to actively engage all stakeholders, including grassroots organizations, local actors, civil society and young people, in a collective approach for the protection of the country’s forest resources.

A Memorandum of Understanding has been developed between Greenpeace Africa and partner organizations participating in the Climate Justice Movement. This initiative has aroused great interest among civil society organizations engaged in environmental protection in the DRC.

Pascal Mirindi, member of the Struggle for Change Movement (Lucha), is optimistic about the possibilities offered by this network initiated by Greenpeace, particularly in terms of capacity building and execution of ideas for concrete actions in the face of current environmental issues. .

The protocol remains open to the membership of other civil society organizations wishing to join the Movement for Climate Justice in the DRC, thus underlining the desire to bring together as many actors as possible engaged in the protection of the environment and the fight against climate change. climate change in the country.
