Advocating for transparency and fairness in the awarding of subcontracting contracts in the DRC

The economic landscape of the Democratic Republic of Congo is constantly evolving, with an entrepreneurship sector seeking to flourish despite the challenges and obstacles encountered. Recently, a plea for the competitiveness of companies in the awarding of subcontracting contracts was made by Luc Kabunangu, executive of the UDPS. This position highlights crucial issues linked to fairness and transparency in access to these markets, essential for the economic development of the country.

In his analysis sent to Fatshimetrie, Luc Kabunangu underlines the importance of fair competition between companies to obtain subcontracting contracts. He emphasizes the essential role of the regulator in this process, calling for rigorous controls to guarantee compliance with the laws in force. Indeed, the awarding of subcontracting contracts must be done in compliance with established rules, in order to avoid any distortion of the market which could harm local entrepreneurship.

Furthermore, Luc Kabunangu highlights the need to revise the sanctions regime to make it more restrictive, in order to deter any violation of the laws and promote a healthy commercial environment. He also advocates for better development of Congolese skills, emphasizing the importance of promoting local businesses and encouraging job creation to fight poverty.

One of Luc Kabunangu’s key recommendations concerns the fight against corrupt practices such as registration certificates and the discretionary designation of companies benefiting from contracts. These practices, denounced as vectors of corruption, must be eliminated to guarantee a healthy business climate conducive to the development of Congolese entrepreneurship.

In short, Luc Kabunangu’s advocacy highlights crucial issues linked to the competitiveness of companies in the awarding of subcontracting contracts in the DRC. By promoting fair competition, strengthening controls and fighting corruption, it calls for necessary reforms to boost the country’s economy and create an environment conducive to the growth of local businesses.
