Distribution of rice to vulnerable people in Nigeria as part of a corporate social responsibility program
The Dangote Foundation, under the leadership of its President Alhaji Aliko Dangote, recently announced its ambitious initiative to distribute rice to vulnerable people in the 774 local government areas of the country. With the ultimate objective of distributing one million 10 kg bags of rice, this action aims to help one million people in need.
Mr Dangote stressed that this initiative was driven by compassion, solidarity and corporate social responsibility. He stressed that this distribution was essential to alleviate suffering in the country, especially in areas facing widespread poverty, such as Kano State.
The distribution program is ongoing across the country, with particular focus on Kano State due to its large population and widespread poverty. The Dangote Foundation plans to expand its outreach to all 36 states, including the Federal Capital Territory, to ensure that Nigerians benefit from this food distribution.
In addition to rice distribution, the foundation also runs a daily meal distribution program for 10,000 people in Kano, as well as bread distribution to families. This initiative also includes a nutritional component, with significant efforts to fortify foods by investing in iodized salt and vitamin A.
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, expressed gratitude for the distribution of 120,000 bags of rice, stressing that this would help feed the vulnerable during the month of Ramadan. He also thanked President Bola Tinubu for his support and stressed the importance of transparency and equity in aid distribution.
This initiative is a laudable example of the contribution of the private sector to improving the living conditions of the most deprived. By highlighting the importance of corporate social responsibility, the Dangote Foundation sets an example and inspires other actors to invest in humanitarian actions for the well-being of society.
