“The MUSALA trades center: a key step in preparing the professional future of Congolese youth”

Launch of the works of the city of trades “MUSALA” in Kinshasa

The Mombele district in Kinshasa was in turmoil this Thursday with the launch of the construction works of the “MUSALA” trades center by the President of the Republic Félix Tshisekedi. Funded by the Belgian Embassy in Kinshasa, this training center aims to prepare the professional future of the Congolese population, in particular the youth.

The Minister of Vocational Training and Trades, Mrs. Antoinette Kipulu, paid tribute to President Tshisekedi for his support for this initiative. As part of the “Kin Emploi” project, in collaboration with its ministry, this program aims to support nearly 5,000 young people from Kinshasa towards employability by 2025. For this, an educational, technical and digital system will be put in place to facilitate training.

The Cité des Métiers in Mombele will be the first center of this type in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with four others planned in the four linguistic areas of the country. The estimated cost of the Kin Emploi project, with the Musala resource center, amounts to 10 million euros. Its objective is to reduce the unemployment rate of young people aged 15 to 25, 50% of whom are women.

The choice of the Mombele district for the construction of the city of trades is significant and historical. It is here that the short cycle school for agricultural instructors has been erected since 1959, financed by the Kingdom of Belgium. Situated at the crossroads of four towns facing the same social problems, the Musala estate will be able to contribute to the fight against alcoholism, drugs, prostitution and banditry.

The Belgian Ambassador to the DRC, Mr. Johan Indekeu, stressed that this project is part of President Tshisekedi’s vision of enhancing the potential of Congolese youth. It is in accordance with the 2023-2027 bilateral program signed between Belgium and the DRC.

The construction of the “MUSALA” trades center in Kinshasa is excellent news for the Congolese population, which will benefit from training and employment opportunities
