“National Assembly: Between transparency and democracy, the issue of the political affiliations of deputies”

Against a turbulent political backdrop, National MP Gary Sakata recently raised a crucial issue regarding the ongoing proceedings in the National Assembly. Indeed, the president of the provisional office asked each deputy to fill out an individual form to declare their membership in the Majority or the Opposition. An approach in accordance with article 20 of the institution’s internal regulations, according to MP Sakata.

However, this call to choose sides regardless of usual partisan affiliation does not appear to be normal practice. Majority member Gary Sakata himself emphasized this point. It is necessary to consider that this approach should not hinder the work of the informant responsible for identifying the parliamentary majority with a view to the formation of the Government.

In the same vein, the informant’s office announced the closure of the mission entrusted to Augustin Kabuya. He also stressed that this initiative within the National Assembly was an internal procedure and should not compromise the ongoing constitutional process.

This situation raises questions about transparency and democracy within the parliamentary institution. It is essential to ensure that the decisions taken truly reflect the will of the people’s representatives. To be continued to see how this situation evolves in the coming days.
