The Democratic Republic of the Congo has signed a letter of intent with Indonesia to cooperate on defence. Indeed, the country wishes to modernize its army and rely on the military industries of the Asian country. The meeting between the Congolese Deputy Prime Minister of National Defense, Jean-Pierre Bemba, and his Indonesian counterpart Prabowo Subianto was an opportunity to discuss the exchange of civil servants, the promotion of cooperation in education and training as well as in the defense industry.
Exchanges between the two parties should therefore continue in order to set up a cooperation program to be signed soon. As a reminder, the DRC is seeking to modernize its army to strengthen security on the territory and guard against terrorist threats.
Cooperation with Indonesia is a strategic choice to meet these challenges and ensure quality military equipment. The country is thus pursuing its reform policy in the Defense sector and the rise in power of its Armed Forces. This project should materialize with the help of military and industrial experts from Indonesia.
Ultimately, cooperation between the two countries is an opportunity for the DRC to modernize its defense sector and acquire the necessary equipment to deal with the threats hanging over the territory. It remains to be seen how the exchange of know-how and technologies between the two countries will materialize.
