Fatshimetrie: A Momentum of Solidarity for the Well-being of Children and Young People in Congo

The Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo, in partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB), has initiated the PABEA-Cobalt project aimed at enhancing the well-being of children and youth engaged in the cobalt supply chain. This significant undertaking involves the construction of 32 social infrastructures in the provinces of Haut-Katanga and Lualaba, symbolizing a remarkable show of solidarity towards this vulnerable group.

During the launch event in Kolwezi, Lualaba province, Minister Modeste Mutinga highlighted the significance of these infrastructures for the education, health, and overall development of children and youth in the region. The project includes the construction of schools, health centers, and academic remedial facilities, reflecting a deep commitment to breaking the cycle of poverty and social exclusion prevalent in many families in the area.

The participation of local authorities and representatives from the African Development Bank underscores the project’s importance for Congo’s social and economic progress. This collaborative effort between the public sector and an international institution signifies a shared dedication to securing a brighter future for the nation’s young population.

The PABEA-Cobalt project is not merely about constructing physical infrastructure; it represents a beacon of hope and solidarity towards a demographic often overlooked. By investing in the education, health, and well-being of children and youth, Congo is setting course towards sustainable and inclusive development for all its citizens.
