Last Sunday, the National Dynamics for the Promotion and Development of People Living with Disabilities (DYNAPROD) held a significant press conference in Kinshasa, urging Prime Minister Judith Suminwa to prioritize the protection and advancement of the rights of people with disabilities in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
During the conference, José Zubi, the dedicated president of DYNAPROD, passionately emphasized the government’s role in maintaining the President’s initiatives that support this community, ensuring their rights are safeguarded and progressed. Zubi commended the progress achieved in the first term of the President, particularly highlighting the enactment of a law designed to ensure the protection and promotion of individuals with disabilities.
A crucial advancement discussed was the recent decree signed by the Minister of the Civil Service, setting a 5% quota for individuals with disabilities in all public sector recruitments. This measure signifies a significant stride towards fostering inclusivity and providing equal opportunities for this segment of the Congolese population.
DYNAPROD, through Zubi, underscored the vital necessity of securing access to employment, education, healthcare, and essential services for people with disabilities. The organization called for collective consciousness and tangible measures to ensure their full integration into the social, economic, and political fabric of the country.
In conclusion, the press conference shed light on the urgent need for inclusive policies that uphold the rights of people with disabilities in DR Congo. It’s a plea for commitment, unity, and compassion towards those often marginalized and excluded from society, aiming to forge a fairer, more just, and humane future for all citizens without discrimination. While challenges persist, the resolute determination to reshape attitudes and practices stands as a formidable force in positively reshaping the reality of individuals with disabilities in our nation.
