Egypt: Call for regularization of resident foreigners

The Egyptian government has recently issued a directive aimed at regularizing the status of foreigners residing in Egypt. These individuals are urged to promptly visit the General Administration of Passport, Immigration, and Nationality to renew their residence card and legalize their presence in the country. The Prime Minister has granted an exceptional deadline extension until June 30 for this procedure to be completed.

Foreigners, especially those exempt from residency fees, are strongly encouraged to register their information at these offices to acquire an electronic residency card. This step ensures their continued access to essential government services across various sectors.

Last year, a decision was made mandating foreigners seeking residency for tourism or non-tourism purposes to provide proof of payment of residency fees, late penalties, or card issuance costs in US dollars or equivalent foreign currencies from authorized banks or exchange companies.

Illegal foreigners with an Egyptian guarantor can regularize their status and legalize their residence by paying a 1,000 US dollar administrative fee at an Egyptian bank.

Egypt, hosting around nine million migrants from diverse nationalities, grants them fundamental rights like work, trade, transportation, and property on par with native Egyptians.

This initiative is designed to foster a more hospitable and standardized environment for foreigners in Egypt, promoting stronger bonds between local and international communities while upholding the law and respecting the rights of all individuals.
