Human development in Egypt: National priority for the years to come

In Egypt, the Minister of Finance, Mohamed Maait, has recently announced a bold commitment to increasing financial allocations for human development over the next six years, commencing in the fiscal year 2024-2025. Aligned with presidential directives, the government aims to enhance resources dedicated to health, universal health insurance, and improvements in the education sector to realize the vision of constructing the Egyptian personality.

Specifically, the health sector will receive a substantial boost with allocations set to rise to 495.6 billion Egyptian pounds in the upcoming budget, compared to 396.9 billion in the current fiscal year, reflecting an annual growth of 24.9%. Similarly, the education sector will witness significant attention, with allocations increased to 858.3 billion pounds from 591 billion in the 2023-2024 financial year, indicating an annual increase of 45%.

In addition to these efforts, investments in scientific research will be reinforced, surpassing 139.5 billion pounds compared to 99.6 billion, signifying an annual growth of 40.1%, as highlighted by Mohamed Maait. The Ministry of Finance is also working on releasing additional resources to enhance the efficiency of human resources in the health and education sectors, allocating 15 billion pounds for medical and teaching staff through the latest social program.

This substantial uptick in resources dedicated to human development underscores the government’s commitment to prioritizing its citizens. By fortifying key sectors such as health, education, and research, Egypt is embarking on a path towards building a more resilient, educated, and prepared society capable of meeting the challenges of the 21st century.
