Training on the rights of women and children in the DRC: towards a more inclusive and egalitarian society

Training on the rights of women and children in the DRC: a crucial step towards empowerment

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) recently organized a crucial workshop on the rights of women and children, aimed at strengthening the understanding of officials in the Ministry of Gender, Family and Children. In partnership with IPAS, this workshop was designed to clarify values and transform attitudes regarding the Maputo Protocol and sexual and reproductive rights in the country.

During two intensive days, participants were trained on various essential modules, including the facilitation of the Maputo Protocol, data on abortions in the world and in the DRC, the evolution of the Congolese legal framework regarding abortion, the fight against gender-based violence, the revision of the Family Code in relation to the Maputo protocol, and sustainable access to sexual and reproductive health services.

The DRC is committed to promoting equal rights and opportunities, whether nationally through its Constitution or internationally by ratifying various legal instruments. However, the implementation of these texts requires qualified human resources. This is why this training is of paramount importance to enable effective application of the rights of women, children and families.

Ultimately, this initiative aims to strengthen women’s empowerment and ensure the protection of children’s rights in the DRC. By providing participants with the necessary tools and knowledge, this training program contributes to the creation of a more inclusive and egalitarian society for all its citizens.
