“Abure arrest case: tensions and internal struggles within the political party revealed”

The matter of Abure’s arrest followed a petition filed by the party’s former youth leader, Eragbe Anselm Aphimia.

This event came a day before the party’s primary elections in Edo State, and party officials are yet to make a statement on the matter.

In the petition addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, dated February 13, Anselm described the events surrounding the alleged assault on December 29, 2023.

Anselm, a member and national youth leader of the Labor Party, has narrated how he and his colleagues were ambushed by a mob outside the Smart Homes Hotel in Benin City.

The attack, orchestrated by individuals including Mary Okheime Newberry and Austin Emeka, was allegedly planned under false pretenses of providing transportation and housing on behalf of unidentified “stakeholders.”

Seeking justice, Anselm courageously brought the case to the appropriate authorities, hoping that light would be shed on these disturbing events.

This affair highlights the tensions and internal struggles within the political party, revealing the power issues and rivalries that can sometimes come to light.

It is essential that political parties ensure that their members act responsibly and respectfully, and that any form of violence or intimidation is unequivocally condemned.

Recent revelations call into question the transparency and integrity of the electoral process, underscoring the importance of ensuring free and fair elections, where every vote counts and every citizen is respected.

These events are an invitation to vigilance and dialogue to preserve democracy and promote healthy and ethical political practices.
