“The United Nations renews its commitment to sustainable development in the DRC”

The recent meeting of the steering committee of the United Nations Cooperation Framework for Sustainable Development in Kinshasa highlighted the renewed commitment of the United Nations to support the Congolese government in the implementation of the national strategic development plan. This meeting was an opportunity for United Nations representatives to reaffirm their desire to provide their expertise and support to the government in achieving its development objectives.

The resident coordinator of the United Nations system in the DRC, Bruno Lemarquis, was particularly enthusiastic about this collaboration: “Ensure that the United Nations is truly available to the government to help it with implementation, to the formulation of the management of major public development policies. » His commitment demonstrates the desire of the United Nations to act as a trusted partner to support the DRC in its development process.

During this meeting, participants examined the recommendations of the 2023 annual review, the evaluation of the 2020-2024 cooperation framework, as well as the recommendations of the joint country analysis. These discussions highlighted the progress made so far, while emphasizing the need to make strategic decisions to improve the effectiveness of development programs.

The presence of David Pelengano Dongba, director of the multisectoral cooperation department and representative of the Secretary General for International Cooperation, underlined the importance given to the implementation of the national strategic development plan. His satisfaction with the performances obtained shows that significant progress has been made, but he nevertheless calls for reflection on the optimization of programs for even more impactful results.

This meeting, organized under the aegis of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and La Francophonie, as well as that of Planning, in collaboration with the sectoral ministries, was therefore an opportunity to take stock of the actions carried out to date and to define future directions to ensure sustainable and inclusive development in the DRC.
