“North Kivu: The appalling terror of ADF rebel attacks continues to strike, leaving a heavy toll on innocent lives”

In the volatile North Kivu region of the Democratic Republic of Congo, the terror of attacks by ADF rebels continues to strike, leaving behind a heavy toll of innocent lives. Over the past three days, fifteen people have lost their lives in attacks attributed to ADF rebels, ravaging different villages in the Bambouba-Kisiki groupement.

Recent events, such as the bloody attack in Mayimoya and the killings in Eringeti and Kokola, illustrate the growing insecurity in the region. Civil society in Beni reported these tragedies, highlighting a provisional toll of victims, as well as worrying disappearances.

The president of local civil society, Patrick Musubao Kambale, said eight people were brutally killed in Mayimoya, by individuals believed to be ADF rebels, using merciless violence. The search for survivors continues, while the local community is plunged into fear and uncertainty.

Faced with these repeated attacks, civil society denounces the lack of responsiveness of the military authorities and calls for large-scale operations to counter the persistent threat from the ADF rebels. Despite efforts to elicit a response from the army, the local population remains vulnerable to this devastating violence.

The alarming news in North Kivu highlights the need for urgent action to protect local populations and guarantee security in the region. Attacks by ADF rebels continue to sow terror and despair, calling for collective mobilization to end this senseless violence.
