“Haiti: political issues and twists and turns in the investigation into the assassination of Jovenel Moïse”

As part of the investigation into the assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse, a series of twists and turns shed light on the case. Judge Walther Wesser Voltaire took radical measures by indicting nearly fifty people, including Jovenel Moïse’s widow, Martine Moïse, and former Prime Minister Claude Joseph.

The investigation reveals disturbing elements: Martine Moïse allegedly conspired with Claude Joseph to organize the assassination of her husband with the aim of taking his place as president. Although these accusations are serious, they seem to be part of a complex political context, where rivalries and conspiracies are not rare.

The reactions were not long in coming. Martine Moïse denounced political persecution and arrests that she considers unfair, while Claude Joseph pointed the finger at Prime Minister Ariel Henry, presenting him as the main beneficiary of the death of Jovenel Moïse. According to him, Ariel Henry uses justice to eliminate his opponents, thus reproducing the classic patterns of a coup d’état.

In this tense climate, the political situation in Haiti remains uncertain. Ariel Henry, appointed prime minister after the death of Jovenel Moïse, promised to hold elections which were postponed due to various obstacles, including a powerful earthquake and the growing influence of armed criminal groups.

At the same time, a separate investigation carried out in Miami highlights a plot involving Colombian mercenaries in the assassination of Jovenel Moïse. Six of the eleven defendants pleaded guilty, revealing a complex scenario of attempted kidnapping followed by planned murder.

This complex and turbulent affair raises many questions about the political future of Haiti and justice in the country. The twists and turns to come promise to shed a little more light on the gray areas of this dark affair.
