The news in Guinea is once again in the news with the dissolution of the government by the president of the transition, Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya. This decision was announced in a decree broadcast on national television by Brigadier General Amara Camara. From now on, it is the cabinet directors and general secretaries who will manage day-to-day affairs pending the formation of a new government.
This change comes after several months of government in place, with slight ministerial modifications but without any real in-depth reshuffle. This new team will have the mission of supervising the country over the next ten months, until the organization of elections to allow a return to civil governance, in accordance with the timetable established with ECOWAS.
Guinea is going through a complex political crisis, marked by the absence of dialogue between the authorities and political parties, as well as social tensions linked to the high cost of living, Internet restrictions and power cuts. These challenges add additional pressure to the ongoing transition, and underline the importance of effective and informed management on the part of Guinean political actors.
The role of Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya, as a central figure of this transition period, is closely observed by the population and the international community. His ability to lead the country towards democratic elections and to ease internal tensions will be decisive for Guinea’s political future. It remains to be seen how this situation will evolve in the coming months, and what measures will be taken by the new authorities to meet the expectations of the Guinean people.
